Martha Chesney

Martha Hendry Chesney passed on June 1, 2023 Her service will be November 1, 2023. Please meet at Robarts Funeral Home @ 11:00 a.m. We will proceed to the Wauchula Cemetery for a graveside service. Please join us immediately following the service: Nicholas Restaurant for lunch. In loving memory my mother Martha Chesney from her daughter Jill Chesney Valentine Let me tell you a little history of my mother. She was a schoolteacher at the beginning of her career she received her master’s degree as a Media Specialist. That was not my mother's choice of profession, my grandparents insisted on it, but she was very good at it. She graduated from Florida Southern College with a degree in Elementary Education then went on to Western Carolina University and Nova University in Miami, Florida to complete her master's and receive her Media Specialist Certification. My parents met while at Florida Southern College. My mother told the story of my father throwing spitballs down the back of her sundress when they attended a class together. This was the heyday of their lives as my mother belonged to a sorority and my father was president of his fraternity. They both spoke so fondly of those times. They were married when my mother graduated. My mother had many hobbies and interests. She traveled throughout the world including Hong Kong, Thailand, Hawaii, Europe, and the US. My mother and I traveled to Europe when I was 13 years old. She also took me white water rafting when I was 11 years old when she attended Western Carolina University. She also enjoyed ecology, genealogy, writing, and photography. My mother was very proud of her Scottish heritage both of her parents were. She was also proud that on her father's side was one of the first settlers of Florida. That side of the family came from Scotland before the Revolutionary War. Hendry County, next to Lee County located in South Florida, was named after my grandfather's family. She loved photography and after she retired, she started a wedding photography business and did well with it. As a matter of fact, she had one of her photos published! She had a heart for animals she hated zoos. She did not like that the animals were in cages. She would often feed the birds and any stray animals that would come around. She is survived by: Jill Valentine (daughter), John Chesney (son), Meghan Valentine Penny (granddaughter), Alex Valentine (grandson), Elliot Penny (great-grandson), Julie Joiner Davis, Alicia Joiner Fields, Robert Joiner, Steve and Pattie Stallons, Patricia and Kay Hendry, Roslyn Davidson (cousins) I will say goodbye for now until we meet again.
