Donald (Donnie) Edward Thompson Sr

Donald (Donnie) Edward Thompson Sr, 76, a lifelong resident of Wauchula, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, September 22, 2020 at Sebring, Fl. He was born in the family home off Steve Robert Special on May 29, 1944 in Zolfo Springs, Florida. Donnie enjoyed spending time with family, growing vegetables in the garden, and riding his motorcycle. He was also an avid outdoorsman and marksman. Donnie was a member of First Baptist Church of Wauchula for many years. He is remembered for his sense of humor and wit. Inspired by seeing his first patrol car, at the age of 3, Donnie dreamed of being a State Trooper. After graduating from Hardee High in 1963, he served in the Army National Guard. Donnie attended the FL Highway Patrol Academy in Tallahassee to patrol the FL Highways for 37 1⁄2 years. He began his career in Broward County, followed by Hillsborough, Hendry, and Glades, completed his duty in Hardee and DeSoto Counties. He is now patrolling the golden “Highways of Heaven”. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Thompson and Lorraine Thompson Rainey, sister and brother-in-law, Velma and Joe Trussell and stepfather, Claude Rainey. Survivors include his wife, Andrea Thompson of Wauchula, Fl; sons, Gary Thompson (Marisol) of Germany; Donald E Thompson Jr “Donnie” (Mandy) of Avon Park, Fl; Jason E Thompson (Fiancé- Deborah) of Yulee, Fl; Bradley E Thompson of Wauchula, Fl; Brandt Rainey E Thompson (Bridget) of Tampa, Fl; daughter, Jill Thompson Kersey (David) of Arcadia, Fl; sister, Faye Lowe (Thurman Sr) of Zolfo Springs, Fl; grandchildren, Jonathan Thompson, Nicole Thompson, Brylei Thompson, Brently Thompson, and Stephanie Kersey Mclaughlin (Jared), great grandchildren, Holden Mclaughlin and Easton Mclaughlin. A visitation will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2020 at 10:00 am at First Baptist Church in Wauchula. A Celebration of Life will follow at 11:00 am at First Baptist Church. Pastor Joe Butler and Mr. Marcus Shackelford will be officiating services. Donations in Donnie’s Memory may be made to Harvest Aviation.
