Alma Clara Durrance, 83, of Wauchula, FL passed away on October 13, 2024, after a long and fulfilling life.
Alma was born on June 15, 1941, and grew up in Hardee County at Griffin's Corner with her father and five siblings. She often reminisced on memories with friends playing at Sand Mountain, working at Dasher's Drugstore, or catching a movie at the drive-in.
She married her husband Ray in 1962 and had two daughters during their 62 years of marriage. Alma worked at Coker Fuel on Main Street for 30 years, retiring in 2006 to spend time with her family and volunteer at church. She loved spreading joy through her cooking and frequently made house visits with a dish when she was able. Alma was a devout Christian who kept her family involved in the church and taught Sunday school for many years.
Alma is preceded in death by her parents Henning J and Clara G Frank, three sisters Anna Bethea, Lucille Faist, and Verna Lastinger, and one brother George Frank.
She is survived by her husband Raymond Durrance of Wauchula, her children Cherie Witte of Englewood and Susan Durrance of Wauchula, grandson Nathan Witte of New York, sister Bertha Stephens of Wauchula, and several extended family members throughout the US.
The family extends special thanks to her brothers and sisters in Christ at New Hope Baptist Church and Riverview Heights Baptist Church who showed her so much love and enriched her life.
Services will be held at New Hope Baptist Church this Saturday, October 19 at 11am with visitation in the sanctuary starting at 10am."
