Bernice Godwin Grimes Lakey, 86, of Zolfo Springs, passed away at Florida Hospital Wauchula on September 20, 2013. Bernice was born in Bereah on November 5, 1926. She moved from Avon Park to Zolfo Springs in 1946. She was a self-employed caregiver in her home.

She is preceded in death by her mother and step-father, Katie and Waver Lenton Lewis, and husbands, Johnny Ray Grimes and Marion Alfred Lakey.

Survivors include one daughter, Arlene Grimes Luke of Zolfo Springs; six step-children, Betty Sue Alviaz, Geneva Burns, Jeannie Smith, Raymond Moore, Shelby Ray Moore, and Ralph Burns; one grandson, Robert Bivens, Jr.; three great-grandchildren, Garrett, Aiden, and Haylee Bivens; several step-grandchildren; one brother, Lenard Godwin of Berea; two nephews, Wayne Godwin of Lake Placid and Charles Godwin of Georgia; three great-nieces and two great- nephews.

Visitation will be held at Robarts Garden Chapel on Monday, September 23, 2013 from 6-8 p.m. with funeral services in the chapel on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. Rev. James Fox will officiate. Interment is in Wauchula Cemetery.
