Caroline Mae Weigle Saunders, passed away on March 27th, 2023, surrounded by her family. "Carol" was preceded in death by her father, Russell Lemione Weigle, her mother, Katherine Scott Weigle, and her brothers: Robert, Richard, and Thomas. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Claude "Carl" Saunders as well as her four children and their spouses: Carla Prescott (Gary), Beth Wilson (Dan), Lynn Callaghan (Mark), and Craig Saunders (Gretchen). She is "Grandma" to 7 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Carol was born on December 27, 1935, in Parkersburg, West Virginia, and spent her formative years in Tampa, Florida. She and Carl married on January 6, 1957, and spent much of her early married life on various military bases raising the four children and relocating across the country in a station wagon. She was a very involved mother and dedicated her time to her children serving as PTA homeroom mom, Little League Softball Team Mom, and Girl Scout Leader. Throughout her years, she loved to play Bridge, Skippo, and Rummy Tile with whoever would play with her, she enjoyed bowling and Casino Cruises. Carl and Carol settled in Wauchula in 1985 where she served as Treasurer of the Garden Club. Her favorite flowers were the iris and the bird of paradise, and her favorite color was salmon coral. Carol attended First Baptist Church and was a faithful member of the Mary-Martha Sunday School Class for many years. Her granddaughter Baylie Callaghan was her caregiver and card-playing opponent. Carol's family will lovingly remember the time she dedicated to them creating a warm home wherever life took them, especially recent summers in Hayesville, North Carolina, and her Christmas food and decor. A visitation will be held on Monday, April 3, 2023, from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Wauchula Funeral Services will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Craig Saunders, Mark Mednick, Ben Prescott, Trenton Wilson, Scott Saunders, and Kenny Coggins serving as pallbearers. Interment will take place at Wauchula Cemetery at 1:30 a.m. Pastor Casey Cockerham, Pastor Jim Stallings, and Pastor Mark Gilliard will be officiating.
