Rev. Leonard Daniel (Dan) Mattson, age 68, passed away on November 15, 2011. He was a resident of Arcadia, FL for 10 years before moving to North Port. He was a social studies teacher, Lutheran Minister, social worker and counselor. As Head Chaplain at Lutheran Hospital in Ft. Wayne, IN, Head Chaplain at Sheboygan Memorial Hospital in WI and Hospice Chaplain, he was able to help so many with grief management and drug and alcohol counseling. Dan retired from the Dept of Juvenile Justice in DeSoto County after a career of aiding others.
Dan was a ham operator, a fisherman and was a football enthusiast who enjoyed High School, College and Pro games. He especially enjoyed the Packers.
Dan is survived by his wife of 44 years, Rebecca Mattson and his son Matthew and daughter-in-law Mandy Mattson, all of North Port. He was preceded in death by his broher Ernest Mattson.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2011 at 1pm in the Robarts Funeral Home Chapel in Arcadia, FL. Pastor Kenneth Redmann of Lutheran Church of the Cross of Port Charlotte will conduct the service.
