G. R. Thornton, 80, of Wauchula, passed away at his home on March 12, 2012. Mr. Thornton was born in Pickens County, Alabama on January 25, 1932. He moved to Hardee County from Winter Park, Florida in 1991.
G. R. was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church and had been a shoe buyer for Rheinauers.
He was preceded in death by sons, Paul and Bryan Thornton, daughter, Debra Thornton, and sister, Willodene Thornton Keating.
Survivors include his wife, Sylvia Thornton of Wauchula; two sons, David Thornton of Charleston, South Carolina and Gary Thornton and wife Doretha of Mobile, Alabama; two daughters, Nancy Shelton and husband Harold of Winter Park and Patricia Burchette of Mascott, Tennessee; five grandchildren, Erica A. Russell, Blake J. Thompson, Anderson Shelton, Anna Lee Shelton, and Jamie Thornton; and four great-grandchildren.
There will be a Gathering of Friends on Sunday, March 18, 2012 from 2-4 p.m. at the family home.
