Gene Sanders, 63, died on May 22, 2010 at his home in Bowling Green. Gene was born in Elba, Alabama on Jan. 20, 1947 to Early and Eunice Sanders. He had been a resident of Bowling Green for 34 years, coming from Alabama. He was a member of the Bowling Green Church of God, and was retired from Moran Groves as a citrus harvester. He enjoyed tinkering, fishing, and hunting. He is preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Nettie Ruth Pollock and Peggy Eddins. Survivors include his wife, Elda Sanders of Bowling Green; sons, Ricky Gene Sanders (Sheila) of Georgia, William Lloyd Rook of Sebring, Benjiman Sanders of Wauchula; nieces that he helped raise, Tonya Gomez of Arcadia and Kathy Gomez of Ona; nephews, Thomas Johnson of Winter Haven and Junior Henderson of Ocala; brothers, Early O. Sanders, Jr. (Hazel) of Jack, Ala, Edward Sanders of Jack, Ala, James Sanders (Sarah) of Troy, Ala, Joe Sanders of Ruskin; sister, Lucille Jackson (James) of Jack, Ala, twin sister, Judy Marler of Bowling Green; and grandchildren, Kayla and Kelly Sanders of Georgia. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 25th from 10-11 a.m. at Bowling Green Church of God followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m. Rev. Michael Howell and Fernando Gomez will officiate. Burial is in Bowling Green Cemetery.
