Gladys Laverne Johnson, 79, of Wauchula, passed away at Somers Hospice House in Sebring on Monday, February 8, 2016. She was born in Nauvoo, Alabama on April 12, 1936 and had been a resident of Hardee County for the past 68 years. She had been a member of Faith Assembly of God in Bowling Green, and was a teacher at Faith Evangelistic Academy.

She was preceded in death by a son, Michael W. Johnson, Sr. Survivors include one son, Joseph Johnson of Wauchula; one brother, J. R. Prestridge of Zolfo Springs; two sisters, June Lowe of Wauchula and Sue Lemay of Frostproof; two grandchildren, Michael Wayne Johnson, Jr. and Jessica Johnson; and one great-grandchild, Bryan Moralez.

Visitation will be held on Friday, February 12, 2016 from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM at Robarts Garden Chapel, followed by funeral services at 3:00 PM. Burial is in Wauchula Cemetery.
