Hugh C. Jones, Jr., a lifelong Bowling Green, FL resident, passed away peacefully
surrounded by family on August 1, 2024, at 78. Hugh Jr. was the eldest of six children.
He is survived by his brothers, Terry (Patty) Jones of Bowling Green, Florida, and Jerry
(Diane) Jones of Bowling Green, Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents,
Hugh Sr. and Alma Addison Jones of Gardner, Florida, and siblings; Wanda (Jimmy)
Gunn of Sebring, Florida, Betty Nix, of Nauvoo, Alabama, and Clara Von Gadbow of
Lakeland, Florida.
Hugh served our great country in the Navy aboard the USS Leary Destroyer during
Vietnam. He was a proud patriot. After returning home from his service, Hugh started a
family. He spent 34.5 years of early mornings and long days as a dragline oiler at
IMC/Agrico/Mosiac. However, his passion was caring for the family's orange groves
and seeing that legacy passed on to his son. He was an active member of the
American Legion Post #2 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars #9853. Hugh enjoyed
fishing for snook, grilling an amazing steak, lunch with friends at the Pioneer, and time
with his family and hound dog.
Hugh is survived by his children, Kimberly (Adam) Roberts of Lakeland, Florida, and
(Hoss) Hugh C. Jones, III (Sarah) of Alturas, Florida. He has five grandchildren, Ali,
Elise, Jason, Colby, and Ethan all of whom love him very much.
A small family service, with military honors, will be on August 31st at Hugh's residence.
