Ray V. Grimes, 86, of Wauchula, passed away on January 4, 2013 at Florida Hospital Tampa. Ray was born in New Brockton, Alabama on June 3, 1926 and had been a resident of Hardee County most of his life.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Wauchula, Wauchula Lodge #17 F & A M, American Legion Post #2, VFW, and the Wauchula Lions Club.
Ray was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Army, and had worked for the Florida Highway Patrol, Wauchula Police Department, and the Hardee County Sheriff Office.
Survivors include his wife, Alice Jane Grimes of Wauchula; two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Janet Grimes of Tampa, and Michael W. and Patricia Grimes of Bluntstown, Fla.; one daughter, Gail Young and companion Tom Partington of Port St. Lucie; one brother, Murry Grimes of Wauchula; two sisters, Faye Hanusch of Bowling Green, and Nell Henson of Wauchula; and four grandchildren, Michael W. Grimes II, Ray Young, Chris Young, and Julianne Grimes.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, January 7, 2013 at the First Baptist Church of Wauchula at 2:00 P.M. Visitation is one hour prior, from 1-2 p.m. Rev. Alan Permenter and Mr. Gary Moore will officiate. Interment with Military Honors is at Paynes Creek Cemetery.
