Ronald Allen Thomas, Sr., 76, of Venice, Fla. died June 26, 2011 in Maggie Valley, North Carolina. He was born in Hardee County on September 12, 1934 and had been a resident of Bowling Green most of his life. He was a member of Fort Green Baptist Church, served in the U. S. Army and had been employed as an electrician in the phosphate mining industry.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Ethel Barley Thomas, wife, Joan Thomas, and four brothers, Fred Jr., Wayne, Dale, and Eddie.
Survivors include his wife, Lynn Thomas of Maggie Valley, NC; son, Ronald Thomas Jr. (Beth) of Venice; daughter, Pam Lewis (Wayne) of Avon Park; sister, Doris Thornton of Bowling Green; stepson, Tim Cowart (Sylina) of Wauchula; stepdaughter, Debbie Ljung (Anders) of Lake Placid; sisters-in-law, Eleanor Thomas of Felda, Fla., Janelle Thomas of Okeechobee, Wanda Thomas of Winter Haven, Sandra Thomas of North Carolina, and Evelyn Cornwell of Hiawassee, Georgia; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 30th at Fort Green Baptist Church from 2-3 p.m., followed by funeral services at 3 p.m. Pastor Steve McGaughey will officiate. Interment is in Fort Green Baptist/Methodist Cemetery.
