Obituary

Vesta Mae Rhodes, born on August 17, 1938, in Elba, Alabama, passed away peacefully on April 30, 2025, in Sebring, Florida, surrounded by her loving family. She was the daughter of Manuel M. Harrison and Cressie Redmon Harrison, and one of fourteen children.
Having spent most of her life in Florida, Vesta moved with her family to Hardee County in 1975 from Lake Placid, Florida. Devoted members of the Church of God, Vesta and her husband Jan attended Faith Temple Church upon their move to Hardee County, where they served in many capacities until God called each of them home.
As a farmer's daughter, Vesta was no stranger to hard work, and instilled a strong work ethic in her children. During her years in Hardee County, she was known by many through her position at Tills Office Supply and serving as a friendly greeter at the local Walmart, where her smile brightened the days of many. Vesta lived modestly, but was known for her kindness, generosity, and willingness to help anyone in need.
Vesta is preceded in death by her parents, many brothers and sisters, and her beloved husband, Jan Rhodes. She is survived by her daughters, Rhonda Rhodes Sleister (Kevin) of Port Orange, Florida; and Lydia Gaye Rhodes of Tinton Falls, NJ; sons Roger Rhodes (Niki) of Lake Placid, Florida, and Raymond Rhodes (Joseph) of Shelton, Connecticut. She is also survived by one brother, Robey Harrison (Martha) of Alabama, as well as 12 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild were the greatest source of immense pride and joy in Vesta's life. She was also close to a number of her nieces and nephews, who showed her a tremendous amount of love and support.
A memorial service to honor Vesta's life will be held at a later date. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude for the love and support they have received during this difficult time. Vesta will be deeply missed but will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
