Mrs. Virginia Rutland nee Wilkerson died peacefully at home on Monday, December 4, 2017 in Wauchula, Florida at the age of 89.

Virginia is survived by her children, Janetta Kieffer, Roger Rutland and Bill Rutland; her sister Ruth Audrey Skaff in Jacksonville; and several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her former husband Harold Loyd Rutland; her parents; and her sisters Evella Marie Holton, Juanita Mabel Strange, and Mary Annette Kazen.

Virginia was born on July 1, 1928 in Bowling Green, Florida to Leon Herbert Wilkerson and Carrie Ann Malvina Wilkerson, nee Brooks. She graduated from high school and married Harold Loyd Rutland on December 14, 1947. Virginia worked for Rutland Radio and TV for many years. She began clerical work for the Division of Family Services in Wauchula in 1972.

Her children remember her as one who cared for the less fortunate members of the neighborhood, encouraging the children to read, and transporting an elderly friend to the doctor.

Virginia loved to read and grow flowers. She was a faithful member of Harvest Temple Assembly of God in Wauchula Hills.

Her visitation will be held on Friday, December 8, 2017 at Robarts Garden Chapel from 1:00-1:30 PM. Funeral services are at 1:30 PM, with a short time of fellowship following the service. Interment will be at Bowling Green Cemetery at approximately 3:00 PM. Reverend Donald Holton will officiate.
